Eight/Eight/Eight or What does 8/8/08 mean to me?
Posted On 08/05/2008 17:45:42 by NumbersByRob

Does the date 8/8/8 mean anything? The short answer is "No."

There is also a not too long answer that could be fun, which we will get to later. The longer answer is that August 8th can indeed be significant for you. It can be an important and meaningful day if you relate strongly to the characteristics and qualities that the number 8 represents.

Before we talk about those characteristics it's valuable to understand that we all experience ourselves differently over time. For instance, someone who has strong characteristics relating to the number 4 typically is a person who is organized, practical, calm and stable. These qualities can serve you well later in life, but might get you labeled as a conformist, boring, or dull while you are growing up. You might rebel againt conforming when you are younger, but find it necessary as you mature.

Our personal characteristics and qualities do shift, fluctuate and change as we grow and mature. There will be occasions when you will express and live out the positive qualities (or balanced) that a number represents and there will be times that you will live out the negative qualities (or unbalanced). No number is necessarily bad and the qualities that a number represents don’t have to be harmful, shameful or detrimental.

How you relate to a number and the qualities or characteristics that any number represents depends on how conscious you are of your own life. You can be in a good mood one day, but be in a down mood the next. Yet, you might still be expressing similar personality traits. You might only be expressing yourself in a slightly more positive or negative way. If you normally act reserved, when you feel depressed you might withdraw and spend even more time alone. You might pull back from social contact. This might make you seem cool, aloof or isolated.

Now we’ll discuss the characteristics of the number 8. The positive side of 8 represents victory, glory, authority, superiority and power. In terms of achievement, it represents "grabbing the bull by the horns", boldness, activity and straight-forwardness. Some of the questions that you could ask yourself when it comes to the number 8 will relate to your own power and authority.

Some questions to ask might be:
* Do you pay attention, when others tell you that you are too overbearing?
* Do you listen when they ask you to be more vocal?
* Do you tend to take the initiative?
* Do you share in the credit for the accomplishments of others?

The positive side of the number 8 might remind you of your favorite athlete, powerful business figure, or other accomplished and well liked people. The negative side of the number 8 might be remind you of those people who won't take “No” for answer, or the pushiest salesman you ever dealt with. The negative side also can represent more extreme characteristics like dogmatism, lack of direction, stubbornness, being domineering and intense insensitivity.

If you react positively to the characteristics of the number 8 then you might want to find a way to make yourself more visible during August 8th. The day could work to your advantage, especially if you have been working toward a major goal or accomplishment. But, if you relate negatively to the characteristics of the number 8 then you might wish to find a way to avoid overplaying your hand. For instance, if you are reactive toward people in authority then you might find a way to stay out of the way, relax and remain calm during August 8th.

The day can represent a time to be recognized for accomplishments. However, the caveat is that you first have to have earned them! Also, you have to be connected to your work. If nobody knows what you have been doing, how can they recognize your contributions? Don’t expect fireworks if you haven’t earned them. Don’t necessarily expect to be rewarded, but it might be possible to be congratulated for your hard work and determined efforts of the past.

The day can also be a day to honor those powerful parts of yourself that you have shut off or turned away from. John Eldredge puts it best when he says, “Women are often attracted to the wilder side of a man, but once having caught him they settle down to the task of domesticating him. Ironically, if he gives in he’ll resent her for it, and she in turn will wonder where the passion has gone. Most marriages wind up there. A weary and lonely woman asked me the other day, ‘How do I get my husband to come alive?’ ‘Invite him to be dangerous,’ I said. ‘You mean, I should let him get the motorcycle, right?’ ‘Yep.’ She shrank back, disappointment on her face. ‘I know you’re right, but I hate the idea. I’ve made him tame for years.’ ” --- Wild at Heart (pg 82)

Now for the fun and challenging part of the answer! Since the number 8 can represent boldness and stepping forward, you might find a way to actually challenge yourself and do just that on the 8th! Perhaps, you’ve been meaning to start a new project, begin actively pursuing a new career, begin dating again, or thought about taking a course. Whatever you've delaying doing, just find a way to go out and do it! Now is your chance!

On August 8th, if you are not normally bold, try “bold” on for the day. Wear it like you would a costume. Connect with the part of you that is brave and step into that for the day. Perhaps, you even could challenge your friends and family to a fun, safe, healthy and non-threatening contest to see who could do the most positive “8” like activity during the day. Perhaps, you might even have a friend create a list of things that you have been talking about, and place each one into a hat. You could then pick one item out and do that!

The outcome of the day really depends on you. Are you ready to welcome the energy and dynamism of the number 8 into your life?

Good luck.
