Live your beliefs and you can turn the world around. --- Henry David Thoreau

Welcome to our discussion. Please, make yourself safely comfortable. Find a pleasant spot to sit or pull up a chair and join us. Now that you're here, we are ready to begin and talk about letting go of limiting beliefs. Belief can be a powerful but very enlightening topic, so settle in, relax and enjoy. Also, if you have any personal insights into our discussion, then please voice your ideas. We'd all like to hear your guidance and wisdom, so don't be shy!

In past talks, We've intimately debated the process of letting go of particular relationships or roles that are no longer healthy or supportive. In this discussion, we'll look at some of the challenges related to letting go of limiting beliefs. Of course, a limiting belief can be either a conscious or unconscious one.

Developing a keen awareness of your beliefs, will help you to be more accountable for your own life. You can take charge! Negative beliefs can weigh you down like an oversized anchor, dragging you into the inky-black depths of hopelessness and depression, and pulling you away from actively living the vibrant life that you seek. You'll be better off, when you're aware of your beliefs and begin to take ownership of them.

We often tell ourselves things like:
* "Someone else can done this better,"

* "I’m not a good person to be around,"

* "I am not good enough,"

* "It's too late,"

* "I don't deserve that,"

* "I'll never have enough energy for that,"

* "I don't have enough money,"

* "Nobody cares,"

* "I am a total failure,"

* "I'll always be alone,"

For many of us, real difficulties develop when we earnestly and actually want to do something, but feel frozen in place. We become mired in fear, doubt or uncertainty. We desparately want to make different choices, yet we feel stuck, as if we we're in hip-deep mud! We might even believe no one can or will, come to pull us out! Believing in yourself, means that you have learned how to come to your own rescue. It also means that you’ve reached a certain level of maturity in your life. How can you get what you want, if you don't believe that you can have it?

Your limiting beliefs might not even be about major, newsworthy life-changing events. You might simply choose to believe that you can't take the beginning steps to be happier, have more friends, have more personal time or to be a little more patient. But you can! All of your beliefs are important! Today, it seems like everyone is talking about visualization and manifestation. Yet, for these processes to be effective, it's important to realize that a vital first step is being aware of your limiting beliefs, and beginning the effort that is necessary to let them go.

Anyone can successfully heal and let go of limiting beliefs. But, to become successful you really do need to be aware of, and accountable for, your own beliefs. Nobody else can do your work. You have to stand up for yourself and face your own challenges. For instance, you wouldn't allow anyone else to belittle you for days on end. Yet, many of us endure an unending, painful stream of constant criticism from deep within ourselves. Having compassion for yourself can be extremely helpful here. What can we gain by telling ourselves that nothing we do will ever matter?

Imagine how much better you could feel, if you took a few moments to actually question the validity of your limiting beliefs as they come up. Perhaps, you might simply say something like, "Although I believe this right now, it might not be accurate or true." It's important to realize that you are not trying to push away or repress your beliefs. You are simply looking for a way to soften their immediate impact. It's about giving yourself some breathing room. It's not about rationalizing or thinking away your beliefs, as your work will also involve your emotional state, which is just as important as your thoughts and beliefs.

You may also wish to look at how you physically react to your limiting beliefs. Do you cringe, clench your fists or scowl? How do you feel? Are you agitated, angry or lonely? Remember or write down your reactions to particular beliefs. Your thoughts, feelings and emotions are all important, and they can help you to pull your limiting beliefs from out of their hiding places.

With time, patience and awareness, you can identify and let go of your limiting and life-draining beliefs. You can then embrace new and healthier thoughts and you can begin to distance yourself from your limiting beliefs. Just getting some distance, might make all the difference for you. As you let go of more of your limiting beliefs, you can feel vastly better about yourself. You'll be able to tell others that you feel more alive, joyful, lighter and less restricted. You'll then be able to actually ask for what you want, and believe that you can have it!
